Japanese Stone Seal (Hanko) Craft Workshop

Japanese Stone Seal (Hanko) Craft Workshop1

About this workshop

Create your own unique Japanese stone seal and take home a meaningful souvenir from Japan.

In Japan, personal seals (known as hanko or inkan) have traditionally been used in place of signatures for official documents, contracts, and everyday paperwork. Today, they are also popular for artwork, letters, notebooks, and personal collections.

During this hands-on workshop, you will carve your own stone seal under the guidance of a certified seal craftsman. The stone used in the workshop is specially selected for beginners and is easy to carve while still producing a beautiful finished piece.

You may choose to carve your nickname, initials, or a simple design. If you would like to use Japanese kanji, the craftsman can suggest suitable characters and explain their meanings, helping you create a seal that is both personal and meaningful. The craftsman can also assist you in creating Japanese characters in hiragana, katakana, or kanji.

No prior carving experience is required. The craftsman will guide and assist you throughout the process, making this workshop suitable even for complete beginners.

Once completed, your seal can be used to decorate letters, sign artwork, stamp business cards, or simply serve as a memorable keepsake from your trip to Japan.
